Student Life
Student Life
Many things make Barcelona a very attractive and safe city to study and live in: its historical and architectural heritage, its cultural activities, its cosmopolitan nature, and its privileged location by the Mediterranean Sea.
Most of UPC schools, departments and facilities are in Barcelona, but there are some in nearby towns, all of them very well connected through the wide network of public transportation.
According to the "World's Best Cities 2023“ ranking, Barcelona is the sixth best city in the world to live, study, work and invest in.
Accommodation
Residence halls are buildings specifically designed to accommodate UPC students and visiting teaching staff. They offer fully furnished rooms for one or two students and all the services you need to feel at home. Managed accommodation refers to apartments with shared services and facilities that offer greater independence and are ideal for shorter stays. Please check in this link to find out location and prices https://www.upc.edu/en/university-services/accommodation.
For accommodation off-campus, we can recommend you two reliable housing platforms that will help you:
-
UNIPLACES (www.uniplaces.com
)
-
HOUSINGANYWHERE (www.housinganywhere.com
)
These platforms have a wide range of possibilities of housing in Barcelona and surroundings (as in others cities in Europe).
The company BCU Housing can also help you find a room or a flat in Barcelona. You will find the information about it in the following link: https://bcu.cat/en/accommodation-in-barcelona.
Costs
In general terms, international students must foresee spending about €1,200 a month on living expenses (accommodation, food, water, electricity, transport, leisure activities, etc.).
One of the most important expenses for an international student is accommodation. You can find rooms from about 400 euros per month in a shared flat, to about 900 euros if you are looking for a student residence. The price will also depend on the location (downtown Barcelona will be more expensive than locations in nearby towns).
For further information, check our website: https://www.upc.edu/sri/en/students/students-mobility-office/incomings/studying-in-upc/cost-of-living-and-prices/cost-of-living-and-prices
International Mobility Office
The OMI (International Mobility Office) provides students with the usual services required by the international community, such as information and advice about mobility calls, language courses, accommodation, foreign bureaucracy and different cultural and social activities of interest for international students.
This office also organises the Orientation Week with the aim to welcome the international students and give them general information about the UPC to make the most of their stay.

FAQs
What is the UPC?
The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (UPC) is a public institution of higher education and research specialised in the fields of Engineering, Architecture, Technology and Sciences, and one of the leading technical universities in Europe. It has several Campuses in Barcelona and nearby towns.

How can apply to a Bachelor programme?
You should get Official Recognition of the Upper Secondary School Certificate, unless you hold an International Baccalaureat or you have followed an European official programme. Then, you should take the Upper secondary level examination for university admission. The qualification obtained will allow you to PRE-ENROL through the University Admissions Website (ACCESNET). Once you have been assigned a spot in one of your selected programmes of the UPC (according to your qualifications), you will have to contact the School or Faculty of the UPC where you will study, and they will inform you about dates and procedures.

Admission to official doctoral programmes is open to candidates in possession of an official Spanish bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and a master’s degree (or equivalent), provided that they have earned at least 300 ECTS credits over the two programmes of study. If you are holding a degree from a foreign education system, homologation will not be required, provided it can be shown that your university offers a level of training equivalent to that of the official Spanish master's degree and that, in the issuing country, individuals holding that degree are eligible for doctoral degree programmes.
