Alexandru Ioan Cuza University

Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași (UAIC), founded in 1860, is the oldest modern university in Romania and one of the country’s major comprehensive higher education institutions. With 15 faculties and hundreds of programs spanning the formal and natural sciences, as well as the social sciences and the humanities, UAIC currently serves more than 25,000 students at Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD level. Research is supported by faculty- and university-level centers, interdisciplinary departments, and active participation in national and international projects. UAIC is strongly engaged in international cooperation and has a long-standing record of academic exchanges through the Erasmus+ Programme with higher education institutions both within and outside the European Union. The university is also a member of several major academic networks and associations, including the Coimbra Group, the Utrecht Network, the European University Association and the International Association of Universities, and maintains more than 100 active bilateral agreements with universities worldwide.

Located in one of the greenest areas of Iași, UAIC has the character of a small student town, with historic buildings, libraries, student residences and cultural spaces gathered around its main campus. The relationship between the university and the city is beautifully symbiotic: just as Iași gives the university a distinctive place in the life of the city, so do its students bring energy, creativity and a youthful spirit to the city itself. In recent years, UAIC has steadily increased the number of international students and professors joining its academic community. Their presence enriches university life through new perspectives, experiences and academic practices, while also creating valuable opportunities for intercultural exchange and collaboration across disciplines.
